Rehabilitation at our Outpatient Surgery Center

The community may be wondering what differences to expect from the Missoula Bone & Joint outpatient surgery center. This outpatient center allows us the capability to perform surgeries which are traditionally performed in a hospital inpatient setting. Rehabilitation services are onsite to provide patient care following the surgery in order to assist each and every patient with a safe transition to post-operative recovery in the comfort of their own home.

Patients will be seen after their surgery to evaluate their current status and ability to return home, with a focus on getting the patient safely out of bed and walking. Functional tasks such as using the restroom, ascending and descending stairs, and getting in to and out of a vehicle will also be addressed. The main goal for post-operative therapy is to ensure the patient is as safe as possible before they leave the outpatient facility to return home.

Rehabilitation services are part of a multi-disciplinary team that will provide comprehensive after care for the patient. An important part of this is patient education, such as the proper fit and use of the various assistive devices or adaptive equipment. We will then establish a home exercise program that will include exercises and/or stretches to be performed in the early stages of healing to ensure the best success after surgery.

The idea of having to participate in rehabilitation so soon after surgery can be an intimidating concept, but it is an important aspect of patient care that is a necessary step in beginning the healing process.

If you have any questions we are here for you.
