Hip arthroscopy in the day surgery center in Missoula

With the addition of Dr. Michael Wright and a full size C-arm the ambulatory (day) surgery center, ASC, at Missoula Bone & Joint, is now performing hip arthroscopy, and other surgery cases that would typically have been performed at a hospital. Until recently, any patients in Missoula needing hip arthroscopy were referred out of Missoula, usually to Spokane. Not anymore! Due to a collaboration with the Missoula Bone & Joint radiology department, we are able to provide this much needed service to our Missoula Bone & Joint patients right here in Missoula. Hip arthroscopy is used to relieve pain, improve joint stability, remove loose bodies within the joint, repair labral tears, and delay the onset of osteoarthritis and possibly delay the need for a total hip replacement. The full size C-arm is needed at the start of the procedure to locate the precise anatomical landmarks and correct instrument placement. Missoula Bone & Joint is fortunate to have our own radiology department with skilled technologists trained to operate the full size C-arm. The ASC staff is very excited to be actively involved with this new procedure and adding hip arthroscopy to the long list of services that we provide to our patients. Dr. Wright and his multi-departmental MBJ team performed eight successful hip arthroscopy cases in November and December 2017, and several already this year. We are also excited to use the full size C-arm for a variety of other surgeries.
