Physical Therapy in Missoula

Eccentric Strengthening of the Posterior Chain Muscles

The single-leg dead lift is one of our favorite exercises for beginning eccentric strengthening of the posterior chain muscles of the hip. Here are some tips to make sure you’re performing this correctly.

  1. make sure you keep the leg you’re standing on relatively straight, but do not lockout the knee.
  2. hinge at the hip and maintain a straight line between your head, back and leg.
  3. bend forward to what is comfortable for your body.

Is this easy? Add some weight to make it more challenging, but make sure you never feel the work in your low back.
