    Dr. Phil Cowmey is a board-certified anesthesiologist with a special interest in the techniques that support ambulatory orthopedic surgery. His expertise includes the use of peripheral nerve blocks to help minimize post-operative pain, as well as regional and general anesthesia strategies that reduce overall anesthetic needs and support a faster recovery. Dr. Cowmey is passionate about the practice of medicine and considers it a true privilege to care for patients. He grew up in Boise, Idaho, and found Montana to be the ideal place to live and work, offering both professional fulfillment and easy access to the outdoors. Outside of the operating room, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and running, as well as spending quality time with his wife and three children. Dr. Cowmey earned his medical degree from the University of Washington (Idaho WWAMI) in 2007, completed his residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle in 2011, and became board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in 2012. He is a member of several professional societies, including the ASA, ASRA, and SAMBA, and joined Missoula Bone & Joint in 2025.
