Our Mission - Quality Care From People Who Care.

Our mission is to provide superior clinical orthopedic care to our patients at all times. We strive to balance excellent patient care with a practice that allows the physicians and employees to work in a business that is financially sound and personal in nature. Every function of our practice is designed to provide comprehensive, compassionate medical care to our patients. We believe a professional and well run medical facility builds confidence in our patients. We want our patients to have a strong relationship with our physicians so they can receive the full benefit of our services. We know that a properly run facility creates an atmosphere where patients can freely talk with our providers. In this kind of atmosphere, our patients will appreciate the expertise and compassion that our providers offer. Creating this environment requires that each of us work together to fulfill our individual roles in providing excellent medical care in a timely and friendly manner.

History of MBJ

Missoula Bone & Joint was founded in 1956 by Dr. W.J. McDonald and Dr. Warren "Mac" McKinstry, the first two orthopedic surgeons in Missoula, Montana. The physicians who joined thereafter maintained their own personal orthopedic practice but worked together in one office at 700 West Kent, Missoula. That group became known as Missoula Orthopedic Associates. In 1999, the nine independent physicians of Missoula Orthopedic Associates joined together as a group and have since become Missoula Bone & Joint, located at 2360 Mullan Road, Missoula, Montana.

The current physicians of Missoula Bone & Joint have over 236 years of combined experience. They all share a love for the beautiful state of Montana and enjoy all the many seasonal activities offered. Our founding physicians would be proud to know that after 60+ years Missoula Bone & Joint still holds true to its original mission of offering quality, professional and dedicated care to those we serve.

History of Orthopedic Urgent Care

Missoula Bone & Joint responded to a need from our community to offer a walk-in clinic that specialized in orthopedic injuries. We listened, and on Monday June 16, 2008 we opened Missoula's first Orthopedic Urgent Care, located at 2360 Mullan Road, Suite C. This walk-in clinic was a convenient option for treating minor joint, muscle, and bone related injuries and conditions. It was open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm.

This service expanded to include evening hours Monday through Thursday until 7:00pm and Saturday hours 9:00am to 2:00pm. In June 2020 we relocated our Urgent Care into our newly remodeled Suite A, with a dedicated urgent care entrance, reception area, and consulting rooms. We currently have 15 certified Physician Assistants, PA-C, who staff the Urgent Care. We offer x-rays, casting and bracing at the time of your visit, and you will be shown your x-rays in the exam room as part of your comprehensive evaluation. If surgery is needed, one of our board certified orthopedic surgeons will be consulted. To learn more about our urgent care service click here.

History of Outpatient Surgery at MBJ

Our original outpatient surgery center was founded in 2001 and was certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This was a freestanding surgery center that specialized in orthopedic, plastic, and reconstructive outpatient surgeries for patients that did not require hospital admission. This facility had two surgical suites and a large pre- and post- operative recovery area. It was located adjacent to our existing orthopedic clinic.

Our current outpatient surgery center opened on December 9, 2019 with our first surgical patient on January 3, 2020. This facility is a two story, 31,949 square foot building with four (4) state of the art surgical suites and private recovery rooms. This facility has the ability to extend a patient's stay up to 23 hours for more complex cases with six (6) private overnight suites. This wing was designed for the purpose of keeping the patients' convenience and comfort in mind. Outpatient total joint replacement procedures, outpatient spine procedures and pain management procedures are also provided in this new facility. We will continue to provide surgical procedures of the shoulder, knee, hip, hand, wrist, elbow, foot and ankle. Energy efficiency was a priority at our outpatient surgery center.
