    Dr. Michael Sterbis is a board-certified anesthesiologist with over 30 years of experience, including service as a U.S. Army physician and decades in private practice.

    Originally from suburban Chicago, Dr. Sterbis attended both college and medical school at Northwestern University. He received an Army scholarship for medical school and went on to complete his internship and residency training at Madigan Army Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, respectively. His military service included time as a General Medical Officer at Fort Greely, Alaska, followed by two years as a staff anesthesiologist at Walter Reed.

    After completing his military service in 1998, Dr. Sterbis and his family relocated to Missoula. He practiced with a large private anesthesiology group for 27 years before joining Missoula Bone & Joint in 2025.

    Outside of work, Dr. Sterbis is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys fly fishing, upland bird and turkey hunting, mountain biking, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, rafting, hiking, and mountaineering. Living in Montana allows him to pursue these passions year-round and stay active in the wilderness he loves.
