DXA bone density scan

A DXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) bone density scan may also be scheduled to assess your bone mineral density. The amount of bone mineral density (BMD) relates directly to bone strength. 

The scanner uses small amounts of x-ray to measure BMD and to produce images of the spine, hip, and forearm. The spine and hip are typically measured because that is where most osteoporotic fractures occur. Learn more about DXA scans at Missoula Bone & Joint.
